Licence details
Corteva Agriscience Australia Pty Ltd
Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)
Insect resistance, Selectable marker - herbicide
The licence allows Corteva Agriscience Australia Pty Ltd to commence the commercial release of cotton genetically modified for insect resistance (WideStrike™ Insect Protection Cotton). The GM cotton contains two genes which produce proteins toxic to certain insects. Cultivation of GM insect resistant cotton varieties needs to comply with an approved insect resistance management plan and any other relevant conditions that may be imposed by the APVMA.
The licence is for an ongoing commercial release. Nonetheless, specific licence conditions have been imposed by the Regulator to help mitigate the low risk of the spread and persistence of WideStrike™ cotton in northern Australia. The GM cotton is authorised to be planted only south of latitude 22º South, and north
of this latitude GM cotton seed must be transported in covered vehicles and only fed to livestock inside stockyards, feedlots or dairies. General conditions are also imposed to ensure there is ongoing oversight of the release.
The risk analysis for this application was carried out in accordance with the Regulator’s Risk Analysis Framework.
