Monsanto Australia Pty Ltd
Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)
Herbicide tolerance and insect resistance
This licence allows Monsanto Australia Pty Ltd to grow field trials of cotton genetically modified for herbicide tolerance and insect resistance.
The cottons can be grown at up to 25 sites with a combined total area of 10 ha in 2024, 50 ha per year in 2025-2027 and 100 ha per year in 2028-2029. The field sites can be in Vic, NSW, Qld, WA and NT. The GM cottons may be grown from September 2024 until September 2029.
The aim of the trial is to assess how the GM cottons performs under field conditions. The GM cottons grown in the field trial will not be used in human food or animal feed.
Monsanto Australia Pty Ltd must comply with a range of licence conditions that restrict when and where the trial can take place, limit the size of the trial, and prevent the GM cottons from spreading outside the trial. For example, there are conditions to contain the GM cottons within the trial site, to securely transport and store the GM cottons, and to destroy the GM cottons at the end of the trial.
